Potomac, Maryland

OVERVIEW

Potomac is an unincorporated community in Montgomery County, Maryland, named for the nearby Potomac River. Its commercial heart is Potomac Village — a crossroads first settled in 1714 that still holds local shops and dining at Falls Road and River Road.

It's a secluded, primarily residential community just north of Bethesda, inside a curve of the Potomac River — one of the region's most well-known suburban areas.

HOUSING CHARACTER

Potomac's housing is mostly single-family homes, many on generous lots, with some townhomes and condos mixed in. Streets range from long-established neighborhoods to newer construction, and home styles vary widely across the community.

TRANSIT & COMMUTE

Potomac has no Metro station — a car is the practical way around here. The main corridors are River Road and Falls Road, feeding toward the Capital Beltway (I-495) and I-270 for commutes toward Bethesda, Washington, D.C., and the region's employment centers.

PARKS & AMENITIES

The C&O Canal National Historical Park runs through the Potomac area — two historic canal locks sit within a few miles — and Great Falls is a short drive away. Potomac Village and the Potomac Promenade area provide local shopping and dining.
