School Data

How to Verify Any School Claim Yourself

Guide · 3 min read

Anyone can quote a school statistic. Here's how to check whether it's real — in under two minutes, from official sources.

The three links that matter

1

Virginia — Virginia School Quality Profiles: schoolquality.virginia.gov. Search any school or district for enrollment, graduation, and assessment data.

Source: Virginia Department of Education

2

Maryland — Maryland Report Card: reportcard.msde.maryland.gov. Same idea: every school and district, one official source.

Source: Maryland State Department of Education

3

Blue Ribbon history — the official archive: nationalblueribbonschools.ed.gov. Every winner, every year.

My rule for school data

If someone shares a school stat without a source, ask for one. Rankings from private sites can be useful context, but the official report cards are the ground truth. This is the standard I hold my own marketing to — every number I publish traces to a verified source, or I don't publish it.

A note on boundaries: School boundaries and assignments can change. Always verify enrollment and boundary details directly with the school district. This article shares published public data with cited sources for information only.
